South Jersey building trades backs Sweeney

Former Senate President Steve Sweeney has won the support of the Southern New Jersey Building Trades and Construction Council in his bid for the Democratic nomination for governor of New Jersey.

“Steve Sweeney is not only a dedicated union ironworker; he is a true brother in labor,” said the council president, Dan Costner. “No candidate is better positioned to advocate for the building trades than one of our own.”

Sweeney has been a member of the Ironworkers Local 399 since 1980 and is the general vice president of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers. He already has the backing of the New Jersey Building Trades and Construction Council

“It’s no surprise why labor is coming out to support him. Steve Sweeney has been with working people every step of the way because he is one of them,” said Kerry Lyon, Sweeney’s spokesman. “As Governor, he will lower costs, create good-paying union jobs, and continue to fight for working families and their values as New Jersey’s next governor.”
